'Portraits in Grace' is first a collection of stories concerned with the moral framework which scaffolds our cultural and personal attitudes. My aim is to rethink the value systems which comprise that framework- it is not to evaluate what is ‘good’ or ‘bad,’ but rather to uncover what is real. The value system of our mono-culture which dictates 'good' and 'bad' behavior is essentially geared towards one outcome: to usurp reality i.e. to deny an authentic individual experience and force the individual into submission via conformity. I am only concerned with exalting that which is authentic, or truly human, and raving against that which violates or subverts authenticity. We live in a period of dehumanization, and our central aim should be to protect and maintain all elements of our human-ness.
